Reino Unido. The Miners Lamp Society: Big Meet 6

Dear Members, this year’s Big Meet is fast approaching. We have two questions for you:
1 Would you like to reserve a table to sell lamps or mining memorabilia? Tables are free of charge this year so please let us know quickly to avoid disappointment.
2 Will you join for dinner the night before? We are again organising a dinner at The Twin Oaks Hotel starting at about 7pm on Friday 6th June 2013 for members wishing to join. The cost has been maintained at £10.00. Many of those attending stay at the twin Oaks: S44 6UZ; 01246 855455; www.twinoakshotel.co.uk Please advise asap.
At the Big Meet, we will be launching our new Book on the Miners Lamps of Joseph Cooke incorporating Hall of Birmingham. It is a 100 page softback book in full colour with over 160 illustrations including over 60 different lamps made by Hall and Cooke.
As a result of our research, we now know that the original business was started in 1820 by William Hall, the father of William Charles Hall, and that the Midland Davy Lamp Works was always owned by the Cooke family. A Cooke company archive has not survived and therefore we cannot say with any certainty, that this is a ‘complete history’ of the Halls and Cookes. Nor have we been able to track down examples of some of the lamps that we know existed - let alone those that have gone unrecorded - but most of the information will be new to those interested in the subject of flame safety lamps.
The book costs £19.99 per copy plus post & packing. Society members can purchase one copy each at the special price of £15 plus post & packing.
Post & packing will be: UK by recorded mail: £6.50; Europe by signed for airmail: £16.50; & Worldwide by Airsure: £22.50. Please enquire about postage for multiple books.
Also, do bring your Davis of Derby lamps to the Big Meet for identification, photographing and to support our research into next year’s featured manufacturer. The Big Meet will be from 9am to 3pm on Saturday, 8th June 2013 at Pleasley, Mansfield, NG19 7PH. Entry is £5.00; £1.00 after 12 noon. We look forward to seeing you there.
Kind regards
Maurice Dawson, Dave Rimmer & Gary Chedgy
